Founder and principal:

Strand Consulting and Management specializes in the solving of problems and providing expert witness testimony related to the heating and air conditioning industry. Mr. Strand has over 60 years of experience in the HVAC industry with an emphasis on innovation and safety. He has worked on many cases related to carbon monoxide poisoning due to improper venting, defective equipment, improper service protocals and installed system deficiencies.  Among his areas of expertise are Indoor Air Quality, Energy Management, HVAC Design, Value Engineering, Commercial Garage Carbon Monoxide system and sensor testing, Carbon Monoxide incident investigation and source of hazard determination.  He has volunteered his time and expertise to the Park City Building Department pertaining to code and safety issues.  He has been retained by the Park City Fire District to work with a mechanical engineering firm to oversee mechanical value engineering on two new District Fire Stations.  His review, analysis and suggestions saved over $500,000.00 on the mechanical portion of these projects.  He has worked on Carbon Monoxide poisoning cases in Salt Lake City, North Salt Lake, Roy City, Park City, West Jordan, Ogden Utah and Ruidoso New Mexico.  SCM works with attorneys representing Plaintiffs in residential, commercial and industrial incidents.

Strand Heating and Air was started with the idea of providing a smaller version of the previous company specializing in residential and light commercial service, remodel, system change outs and some smaller design build. Mr. Strand recently did a design build on the Park City Utah USSA Ski Team sleeping quarters HVAC system. He also has acted as a consultant to the Park City Building Department.

Strand Heating and Air Conditioning designed and installed over 1400 Heating, air conditioning, exhaust, ventilation and energy management systems.  The scope of work included mansion sized residential homes, restaurants, commercial buildings, remodels, tenant improvements, hotels, schools, City offices, old folk’s homes, sound studios, theaters, historical buildings, gyms, medical and dental offices, car dealerships and large box retailers.  The systems installed ranged from radiant, forced air heat, chilled water, DX air conditioning, geothermal, make up heating, exhaust fans, heat recovery ventilators, and pneumatic, RF, digital and electronic control systems, HEPA style filtration.

President and founder of corporation:

Strand Air Conditioning & Heating designed and installed over 4000 air conditioning, heating, exhaust, ventilation and energy use systems.  Customers were from a broad spectrum of industrial, commercial, residential, civic, scientific, film and music industry forums.  Mr. Strand formed another Orange County company, ACSI Engineering, which specialized in Solar and Geothermal heating.  In 1981 while working with the recording and film industry Mr. Strand was awarded a Patent for a studio sound abatement box used for supply air and return air.  This device is for sound stages, recording studios and isolation booths.  Over 70 of these were used at various locations including CBS, Sunset Sound Studios, Glen Glenn Studios, Post Productions, The Great White Band recording studio and Mike Post Productions.  He also worked with the Southern California Gas Company and Bacharach Inc. to develop gas combustion and carbon monoxide work groups for HVAC contractors in Southern California.  In 1989 he was hired as an independent consultant by Paramount Studios to oversee the redesign of Air Conditioning systems for the sound stages at the Burbank California location.

R.A. Air Conditioning

Partner and founder:

R.A. Air Conditioning was a partnership formed by Mr. Strand and Arnold Stein in 1968 specializing in gas fired Air Conditioning systems produced by Arkla Servel, Bryant and Whirlpool.  The company worked closely with the Southern California Gas Company in designing innovative and efficient installations due to the phasing out of the Federal Tax Rebate programs for gas air conditioning. Mr. Strand also had the opportunity to develop, with the University of California Los Angeles, a minority employment out-reach program providing practical work force opportunities in the mechanical trades for females.

During this time Mr. Strand became an apprentice in Local 250 Steamfitters Union and subsequently became a journeyman in 1966.  He worked on various high-rise buildings, State and City offices, City Libraries and computer rooms in Los Angeles and surrounding communities as a job foreman.  He was privileged to work with the University of Southern California science Lab on the development of a low temperature cascade refrigeration system for the high percentage recovery of Ethane gas.

North American Aviation
July 1960 - June 1963

After graduation from Lennox High School Mr. Strand worked for North American Aviation, first as apprentice and then as a journeyman tool and die maker.  He worked on many top-secret projects such as the XB-70 Valkyrie, Apollo command/Service Module, F-108 Rapier and the X-15 rocket.  In 1961, at the age of 19, he became the youngest lead man in the history of the United Aircraft workers Union.  In early 1963 he was chosen to go to the top secret North American Aviation facility in Palmdale California to do a delicate repair on the drop-down nose section of the XB-70 that had been damaged by a fork lift truck.
